Our Training Courses
CFAB’s expert team delivers specialised training programmes for social workers, solicitors, the judiciary and other professionals working on child protection cases with an international element. Our trainers are qualified social workers with direct experience of cross-border casework. They have an in-depth understanding of local authority processes, current issues and an up-to-date understanding of national and international legislation and best practice. Please see our list of training courses below:
New: Lunch & Learn Sessions
CFAB are now offering Lunch & Learn sessions on issues related to international child protection. Our next session will be on the 23rd July and will help attendees enhance their practical support for children, young people and their families following family reunification. Book your free place today and watch the first part of this training here.
Additionally, we will be holding a session on Overseas Assessments on the 8th October. We will aim to break down some of the barriers that can arise in cases with an international element, by discussing: when and why an overseas assessment may be necessary, the various ways assessments may be obtained and legal considerations during this process. To attend this insightful training, register here.
New: Culturally Inclusive Practice – Essential Skills for Social Workers
This half-day course on the 17th September will look at the importance of becoming culturally inclusive in our work, share practical skills for social workers and explore opportunities for collaboration with overseas social services. We will discuss the diverse nature of culture found within the UK, encourage exploration of cultural misconceptions and bias, and consider why it is so vital that practitioners are equipped to work in a culturally inclusive manner. Spaces are limited, so book your place today here.
New: International Kinship Care & Court Proceedings
On the 26th November, CFAB will deliver this essential training for practitioners. Drawing on case studies, this training will explore the legal, cultural, and practical complexities of placing children with family overseas. Be sure to sign up here.

CFAB has developed an International Social Work Certificate which will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to handle casework which involves another country. Attendees will also learn about female genital mutilation and how girls can be protected from this form of abuse. You will learn about what it is, where it occurs, how to identify signs of FGM and how best to act on safeguarding concerns. Find out more here.
