As we approach the end of the year, many of us are looking forward to spending time with loved ones in the coming weeks.
Unfortunately, so many of the simple pleasures and traditions that we enjoy around this time of year – from family meals to decorating the Christmas tree or the lighting of the Hanukkah candles – will be denied to many children in the UK. Children who have experienced unthinkable violence, abuse or exploitation. Children in care who are moved from one lonely placement to another. Children who have fled war and conflict and no longer have a safe home.
CFAB works to protect some of the most vulnerable but least visible members of society. We identify and protect children who have become separated from their family across international borders. Many have suffered from abuse, neglect, exploitation and other devastating trauma.
We work to protect children like Arya.
Arya’s story
Arya was just 6 years old when, without her mother’s consent, her father brought her from India to the UK.
Arya was left with a family friend but was soon passed from one home to another. When she was 8, she was badly beaten by somebody with whom she had been sent to live. Her injuries were so severe that she needed hospital treatment and was subsequently taken into care.
The Child Protection Officer assigned to Arya called CFAB’s Advice Line hoping that we could locate her mother. Working with our international partner in India, we were not only able to find the mother but also able to confirm that Arya would be safe with her.
Mother and daughter are now happily reunited with Arya settling back into life in India, safe from harm.
